The Maritime Emergencies and Coastguard Centre of Excellence (MECCOE) is an international initiative established by the Maritime Search and Rescue Council. It strengthens maritime safety, search and rescue and coastguard capability through long-term collaboration, education, research and organisational development.
MECCOE does not deliver isolated training programmes. It builds lasting partnerships that help organisations, institutions and governments develop the knowledge, skills and resilience to meet today’s maritime challenges and to prepare for the ones coming.
How MECCOE works
MECCOE is built on partnership. Each Centre of Excellence contributes its own expertise, facilities, regional knowledge and relationships with local maritime organisations, and delivers programmes that meet the standards set by the Maritime Search and Rescue Council.
In return, partners join an internationally recognised network with access to specialist expertise, professional development, collaborative research, capacity-building initiatives and the opportunity to deliver recognised training programmes.

Capability is developed locally and supported by international expertise. MECCOE helps organisations develop their own people, strengthen local knowledge and establish centres of expertise that keep growing long after a project has closed.
