The Maritime Fire Incident Commander Level 1 course is an intensive three-day training program designed to equip external incident commanders with the essential skills needed to manage fire incidents aboard vessels effectively.
Focusing on operational-level incident management, the course covers maritime fire best practices and regulations, including STCW requirements and NFCC guidance. Participants will gain expertise in fire science, vessel construction, fire protection, and advanced firefighting strategies.
The first day introduces the regulatory framework, fire behaviour, prevention techniques, and the critical role of the incident commander, with a practical exercise to enhance decision-making and command presence. On the second day, participants learn advanced firefighting tactics, including offensive and defensive strategies, tactical ventilation, and dynamic risk assessments, reinforced with historical case studies.
The final day emphasises the Incident Command System (ICS) tailored for maritime emergencies, enhancing emergency communication and coordination with shore services. Participants will engage in a full-scale incident command drill, applying all learned concepts in a realistic setting.
By the end of the course, participants will be proficient in leading firefighting operations and ensuring crew safety, ready to assume the role of a maritime fire incident commander at Level 1.
