The Maritime Search and Rescue Council (MSARC) is the international professional body for maritime search and rescue. Established in 2021, MSARC is a not-for-profit organisation that advances maritime SAR through professional recognition, specialist training, standards, research, consultancy and international collaboration.
What we do
Our programmes bring together the people, systems and standards that effective search and rescue depends on:
- Professional recognition for maritime SAR practitioners, including membership grades and post-nominal letters
- MSARES, the Maritime Search and Rescue Endorsement Scheme, delivered in partnership with The Nautical Institute
- MECCOE, the Maritime Emergencies and Coastguard Centre of Excellence
- Specialist SAR training, mentoring and operational support
Who we work with
We support paid, retained and volunteer SAR professionals, alongside SAR organisations, coastguards, maritime agencies, non-government organisations, training partners, academic institutions and commercial operators.
Our work spans professional recognition, training, consultancy, vessel and safety management, technical audits, standards development and organisational improvement, benchmarked against the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR 1979), the IAMSAR Manuals and SOLAS.
